Driver Trainer and Fleet Compliance Coordinator- Coventry, West Midlands

A Driver Trainer that will lead driver development, training and compliance. The role will also include investigation of driver infringements and completion of the company disciplinary process where necessary. The candidate will also hold responsibility for ensuring compliance across the UK based driving fleet, inclusive of following up on defect reports, and advising Transport Planners when vehicles must be made available to the VMU for maintenance or routine checks.

Job Description

  • As a Driver Trainer, the role is first and foremost about setting the driving team up with the support and training required to be the best driver they can. Using existing training tools at the Company’s disposal, including an online training portal to create and update training modules and material for drivers; or introducing your own training methods.
  • Identifying those on the driving staff that may need additional support or monitoring.
  • Completing Driver Assessments and Inductions for new drivers, ensuring all licences and qualifications are valid and in date.
  • In instances of infringements, incident, accident or negligence, following the Company’s Disciplinary procedure from investigation, to disciplinary, and on going support or corrective training.

The role would be Monday – Friday, working hours of 42.5hrs per week. Due to drivers’ shifts the role will require some flexibility if the Driver Trainer needed to follow up with drivers on an early or late shift. Their start/end time that day would reflect time spent on site.

General depot support may be required at times, such as trailer shunting, yard marshalling at peak times, and cross docking or transhipping.

This is a new role, and so the job description is subject to change and development with input from the successful candidate and based on their experience.

Experience Requirements

  • The candidate will hold a current C+E Licence, and have spent time driving HGVs. Experience in refrigerated loads would be extremely beneficial.
  • Previous experience in an office-based transport role, such as a Transport Planner or Co-ordinator would be valuable, so the candidate can act as a bridge between the planning and driving team, helping each to appreciate the complexities of each other’s roles and stresses.
  • Transport Management CPC is not a requirement for the role, but the candidate should have a working knowledge of Tacograph Regulations, as they relate to driving hours and legal breaks.
  • A previous role with some supervisory/team management aspects would be seen favourably.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are a mandatory requirement, as the role is first and foremost people management and support.
